Leaf litter refers to a layer of dead leaves on the floor of the vivarium. Leaf litter provides visual barriers and places to hide for the vivarium inhabitants. 

Live oak leaf litter gradually breaks down, adding nutrients to the substrate. It's excellent for sustaining healthy populations of microfauna, such as springtails and isopods, that not only provide a source of food for many vivarium inhabitants, but also aid in keeping the vivarium clean. 

Leaf Litter performs a very important role in a naturalistic vivarium. It provides shelter, visual barriers, and hiding places for the vivariums inhabitants.  Leaf litter mimics the role of dead plant matter in the forest.

We hand gather our leaves each Spring from our 100% organic live oak trees. The leaves are then screened to ensure you only receive the finest litter.  They are packed when you order and shipped daily.
